What to Check Before Replacing a Hydraulic Hose

Before removing a hose, it’s essential to confirm the cause of the issue and ensure the replacement matches system requirements.

Is the problem in the hose, fitting, or connection point?

Check for fluid escaping from a crimp end (hose issue) or threaded joint (fitting issue).

Read the markings on the hose (pressure rating, size, and temperature range).

Match these with the system’s requirements — never downgrade pressure capacity.

Mismatched fittings are a common cause of leaks and early failure.

Identify the fitting standard (BSP, JIC, ORFS, DIN, NPT).

If internal damage or blowout occurred, flush the system before installing a new hose.

Contaminants can cause immediate failure of the new assembly.

Ensure proper bend radius, routing, and clamp support.

Avoid tight turns or tension between fittings.
